Dear Colleagues, we ask kindly for your collaboration.

We have taken on the exciting task of updating Volume Two (Trauma) of Maurice King's Primary Surgery.

As you will know, the original edition was published in 1980, since when there have been substantial changes and advances in the type, cause and extent of trauma in LMICs. The burden of care for the majority of trauma patients must shift from tertiary centres, where specialized care is usually hugely overburdened, to the district centres.

Trauma is now the epidemic of LMICs, and is responsible for more morbidity and mortality than HIV, gastro-enteritis & malaria put together! It principally affects the young and economically active, and so means a massive deficit for general productivity, and thus social cohesion. Furthermore there are areas of trauma (such as FGM) which were not discussed at all in the original volume. Thus there is an absolute need for an urgent revision of Volume Two.

The updated revision of Volume One, available free online through Global-Help.org, has already clocked up over 900,000 downloads. This book is thus the most read surgical text globally, by far!

We thus invite you especially to an important inaugural planning meeting In Berlin on 26th October, 2017, details of which you will find below. We are able to provide a small honorarium for editorial work, where this is requested.

If you are unable to attend, but still wish to give your input, and co-operate in writing a chapter (or more), please let us know.

We should like you, if possible, at this early stage to suggest which chapter(s) you would be willing to re-edit.

Please contact: contact@primary-surgery.org
